When Yuja Wang takes the stage, a thrilling performance is guaranteed. The pianist, always explosive and magnetic, takes on the challenging Piano Concerto by Ligeti—an extraordinarily complex work, full of irregular rhythms and fascinating textures. Accompanied by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Fabien Gabel, the evening is rounded out with the neoclassical refinement of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite, a selection from Mozart’s Idomeneo, and the pure lyricism of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. A programme that blends avant-garde, elegance, and virtuosity in its purest form.
